Stonewall Science Night is coming on Tuesday April 19th! We will have 17 presenters in a variety of areas from fossils to circuits, from slime to bugs, from nutrition to DNA. It should be lots of fun! To help it be a success, we need helpers in a variety of areas from helping our presenters get set-up in their rooms and closing rooms for breaks, to delivering or serving food, helping at the prize table, and more. Please visit http://vols.pt/jnW7Ep to sign up. With Volunteer Spot, you do not need to create an account to help out, but if you prefer to be signed up manually, just email firstname.lastname@example.org with when you would like to help and what you would like to help with.

The 2016-2017 school year is on the horizon, and we will need officers to serve on the PTA Board and Parent Representatives to serve on the SBDM (Site-Based Decision Making council). For the PTA Board, members need to attend PTA meetings regularly while they serve. The term is one year with renewal possible for one additional year (not required but preferred). To be considered for a PTA Board position, you need to have been a PTA member this school year. We need the following positions :
Vice President for Communications: This person is in charge of the PTA newsletter as well as our posts to social media and our website.
Recording Secretary: This person takes minutes at each PTA meeting and prepares the agenda.
Treasurer: This person handles all the finances for the PTA and prepares the budget with input from the PTA Board.
The Site-Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) consults on all school-based decisions at Stonewall, from curriculum to staffing, budget to policy. The SBDM at Stonewall is made up of 3 teacher/staff representatives, 2 parent representatives, and 1 administrator. The SBDM is voted on each year, with no term limit restrictions. We are seeking two Parent Representatives for the 2016-2017 school year. The only requirement for SBDM is that you are the parent or legal guardian of a student who will be at Stonewall for the 2016-2017 school year (incoming kindergarten parents are welcome so long as their student is registered).
If you are interested in serving in any of these positions, please contact Nominating Committee Chair Julie Beck (email@example.com) to confirm in writing your interest in being considered and send a one-page bio by Wednesday April 13th. The slate of nominees will be presented to the board at the Monday April 18th PTA meeting, and any uncontested positions will be voted on at that time. If there are any contested positions, an election date will be set for May.

Hopefully the crazy winter weather is over for this school year and we can move on toward spring! March is a busy month for the PTA!
Love The Arts Night had a wonderful turnout, and seemed to be enjoyed by all. A huge thank you to all our presenters, teachers, junior artists, musicians, and PTA volunteers! There is a tremendous amount of work and time that goes into making these nights a success, and we appreciate everyone who contributed!
I am excited to say that the basketball goals are waiting to be installed! The goals were purchased with money from our Walk-A-Thon fundraiser last fall. Besides the playground improvements, the money has been used to improve the school and to help with programming for your children. Fundraiser money goes toward funding SAP requests (which allow teachers to subsidize field trip or grade wide program costs). The money also goes toward programs such as Love The Arts Night, Science Night, Movie Night, and Field Day. There are many more programs (Hospitality, Teacher Reimbursement, etc) which benefit from PTA fundraising. The playground was an enormous purchase last year, and depleted our PTA reserves. With this spring fundraiser, we hope to be back in position to continue our programming into next year. Look for the spring fundraiser information to come home mid March.
Literacy Night is coming up on March 8th, and the book fair is all that week. Kids love hearing their favorite books read by the teachers, and it is a great way to check out teachers in different grade levels. The talent show is March 25th, the Friday before Spring Break. Look for more information on that in the coming weeks. Finally, Science Night is April 19th, so mark your calendars!
There is so much going on as we move toward the end of the school year! Remember to join us for our PTA meeting on March 21st!
